Have our “memory eyes” for Brad finally faded?

Brad Pitt is currently promoting a movie. As we know, fashion is now part of a movie star’s press tour – we’ve seen how Zendaya and Law Roach, for example and especially, have leveraged her style to bring attention to her projects. But fashion is one of the rare weapons in the celebrity arsenal where women have an advantage over men. The men have been bringing it over the last few years, no doubt, and the gap is gradually closing, but the A-listers who are “ones to watch” on a red carpet are still the exceptions: Colman Domingo, Jeremy Strong, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Timothée Chalamet.

Brad Pitt is now trying to join this group, and we have seen that effort this week while he’s been in New York. In terms of success, considering that his style choices have been making headlines the last few days, you could say that he’s met his goal, if the only category on the report card is to generate conversation. People are, indeed, talking about Brad Pitt’s fashion. And that’s definitely the point, because when we’re talking about his clothes, or his relationship, what we are not talking about, what we’re being asked to forget about, is that on the red carpet, he hasn’t been joined by any of his six children in almost nine years. Which is noteworthy because his children are often on the red carpet, either as a full team or in some combination, with their mother, Angelina Jolie. Obviously, then, it’s not that the kids aren’t willing to step out in public with a parent, it’s just that there’s only been one parent they’re ever seen in public with. So he probably doesn’t mind that we’re talking about the clothes. Even if the clothes are bad. And if we’re considering how the fashion is being received…well…the report card is not exactly a slam dunk.

Let’s go back to Timothée Chalamet, he’s relevant here not just for men’s fashion but because Brad is now working with Timmy’s stylist, Taylor McNeill, along with his regular stylist George Cortina.

A better word for it might be thirst. And this, I think, is where there’s a disconnect in image between the reputation that Brad Pitt has spent decades cultivating and the one that’s emerging now through his clothes...
