When news broke last week that Britney Spears was selling her portion of the rights to her music catalogue, fans around the world crashed out, me included. There was confusion, there were tears, and then eventually some relief – because when you actually take a minute to really look into the sale and understand what selling “a portion of music rights” even means, it’s possible this could be the decision that leads Britney to the freedom she has always yearned for.
