Awarding Taylor Swift, King Charles told on himself, the art vs artist line and who we cover, on The Odyssey's nomination chances, and ballcap hairstyles
When I think about doing a near-EGOT in one season of course my mind goes to Bob Fosse, who in two months in 1973 won the Tony for directing Pippin (Mar 25), the Oscar for directing Cabaret (Mar 27) and the Emmy for directing Liza with a Z (May 20). That's an all-time run right there.
This may be snobby of me, but people who write a check for a producer credit of a either Broadway production or a film that other people created and more or less finished by the time the star got their checkbook out are not real EGOT-ers to me. you are buying your way in and did not earn it. especially the tony, which is already the hardest award to get out of the Big 4.
i would hate if taylor got a tony that way. and i also don’t think someone who is as obsessed with putting in the work as her would want to win it that way either.
I 100% agree with the last part - there is no scenario I can see where she isn't completely committed and involved any work, creative or otherwise, bearing her name.
I can see your argument especially in relation to Taylor, but there are also people that would love to be creative enough as developing a broadway musical but just don't have the chops. They want to support an art that they love so they use their money to make sure the production sees the light of day. I think that is important.
i totally agree with you, i think that is important! art should be funded and supported!
i’m not entirely sure if that was the point i was making, however. im not really talking about random lovers of art who aren’t creative themselves but want to be involved. i’m talking about how there are celebrities who are at the EGO stage and want the tony, and so they latch onto someone else’s almost completed work as a financial backer as a way to win the award. they aren’t really doing it to be Involved in Making Art. they’re doing it to finish the EGOT. the celebrities could just act in a broadway play or musical (or if they are musicians, write a broadway score) and try to win a tony that way, but they don’t.
it’s sort of like the vanity executive producer credits celebrities are now getting in film and tv. they aren’t actually doing the work to earn that credit.
Wasn’t part of Taylor’s myth, that she felt that Tom Hiddleston wanted her to go with him to the Golden Globes for publicity and that was a big part of why she dumped him? I often wondered if that fed into why she was with housecat Joe for so long. He was never going to ask her to walk any carpet with him ever.
Yeah, I’m not really a Joe defender (although I do agree with hunter harris that her best love songs are about Joe) but I do think it’s unfair to compare Joe not wanting to deal with Taylor level pap/attention stuff vs with an actress who was in one popular Ryan Murphy joint. Like yeah they’ve been papped a few times (probably more for the Taylor of it all than anything) but I would imagine that’s way different than whatever Taylor deals with pap wise, you know the sneak around rolled up in a carpet type stuff. I’m glad Taylor seems happy with someone who matches her attention-wise but it strikes me as a touch unfair to dump on Joe…
I have thick, wavy/curly Jewish hair and having the top/sides weighed down or firmly pulled back is my secret weapon while letting my hair air dry naturally.

I agree. I can also see Taylor fully creating a broadway musical in the future lol.

As someone with very thin, flyaway frizzy hair, ball caps, any hats really, are my enemy.
It’s refreshing to read that Lainey does the ballcap flat look to style her hair cuz same.
