The comments about dictatorial bosses who can turn on a dime and suddenly become cold and unreachable put me in mind of what Jennifer Garner said about Ben Affleck in that (notorious) vanity fair article in 2016 that you reference all the time - "When his sun shines on you, you feel it. But when the sun is shining elsewhere, it's cold. He can cast quite a shadow". Charisma, the likes of which have propelled people like Lorne Michaels and Ben Affleck to the heights they have reached, certainly has a duality to it. Know someone else who was described in a similar way? Henry the IIIV. Just sayin'......

Re: Lorne - Having worked for a couple narcissistic bosses, I really related with this notion of the seesaw between favourite and least favourite. In my experience, the fall from ‘grace’ is often swift and complete. To say nothing of the general toxicity, it creates a workplace focus more on the pleasure of the leader than the work itself. Shudder!

The most impressive thing about Lorne Michaels is that he persuaded Ms Lauryn Hill to perform at the SNL 50th Anniversary Concert AND she was on time. That right there is power and influence. (But I also think Questlove must made some sort of deal with the devil to help it all along.)

That performance was one of the highlights, easily

Adding to Lainey’s evergreen posts. I still think about “All Roads Lead to Wendi Deng”. That is such a fantastic example of how his gossip can touch every aspect of our culture. I share it with people whenever they try and snark on celebrity gossip too. http://www.laineygossip.com/Leonardo-DiCaprio-meets-with-Donald-and-Ivanka-Trump-to-discuss-green-jobs-which-leads-back-to-Wendi-Deng/45703

Whoa, I thought she and James Norton were together! I am behind the times!

They were (and engaged)! They broke up in 12/23. She and Brett did a movie together. Not sure how the timing of everything went down…

For the Oscars, I am most looking forward to seeing whether Lainey can top her ETALK AFTER THE OSCARS dress from last year!

Cracks is one of those movies no one seems to know about but once you get them to watch it, they love it.

All I can say about the rotating favorite style of leadership is that it's exactly how cult leaders keep their victims in line. It's the underpinning of coercive control, every abusive relationship has it in some degree. It was evident in how Joss Whedon would dole out his favoritism on the Buffy/Angel sets with the invites to his stupid fucking Shakespeare nights.

exactly this.

after a tough week, it was such a thrill to read your response to my SNL question. Thanks Sarah and Lainey!

I have no idea what this means, but two actresses that I have never been able to enjoy are Juno and Andrea Riseborough. They both have this energy/vibe on screen and in photos that I find so unnerving and almost dangerous.

This is probably a comment that should have been saved for therapy but🤷‍♀️

eee! I love that you wrote about your take on the Rose article! Thanks Lainey! I was wondering...do you think E Alex Jung (just so amazing) was kinda, cheekily implying something more...with this below. I mean it may be nothing...but the one sentence answer haha. Anyways, I would love to see them together :).

I take it you and Bruno are close?

Yes. Very close.

Did your relationship with him begin as a work thing?

Basically. I told my label I was a big fan. And then, me with my celebrity privilege, they said, “Would you like to get in a meeting with Bruno Mars?” I was like, Wow, I should say “no” to this because I feel a little embarrassed. But I could not say “no.” When I met him, I felt like he read through me, and I was like, Oh my God, I feel scared.
