Dear Squawkers, It’s my first email blast of our Squawk era! And for me, personally, it feels like a homecoming. As I shared earlier this week LaineyGossip started as a newsletter 20 years ago. And now, two decades later, we’re back in the newsletter game. But this isn’t the only full circle moment of my career lately.
Random thought about this post. I told Lainey when we were choosing the photo to post at the top of this article that I needed something in a landscape orientation or her head might get cut off. I asked if I could crop it. Her: "No, I want it to show me walking away". Me: "Ok...." And what do we have? Her head is cut off on the home page rendering of this article. I am aware....
I just don't remember this adversarial relationship. I look forward to Lainey reminding me, because I have misplaced this file in the ole memory palace (which is a ransacked file cabinet these days).
Congrats, Lainey! I am glad you are doing what is best for you (and it sounds like you will still have quite a bit on your plate). As a reader, I had felt the time pinch in the blog the past few years - your content is great and has been even better as we’ve all grown but it just felt more sparse. Selfishly, I missed you and am glad you’re back.
I love that you’re going to focus more on writing. I think you’re one of the best “Inside Baseball” culture writers. The combination of being inside/outside with owning how you’ve needed to become intersectional in yourself—and then in you’re writing and critiques—is why I read the site daily.
And to see if I missed JLo dropping her newsletter!
I’ve been reading LaineyGossip since 2008-ish. The blog accompanied me through some rough times and provided a much-needed escape from some real shit. I’m so glad I can not only comment and gossip with other like-minded folks, but also support the blog through my subscription. Can’t wait to see how the site and Squawk evolve!
Been reading for years. And been watching the Social since pretty much the beginning! I’ll miss your amazing outfits Lainey 😭 But I have to ask, will this next decade mean another published book? I, like so many others, loved the Squawking Chicken!
I am so excited about this! I started receiving your emails back in 2004, and have been a faithful site reader ever since. I’ve wanted to comment on so many stories, I love this concept. Looking forward to being part of the LG community!
I am glad that this is one of the things you chose to prioritize. I have been on the site daily for 10+ years - since my early 20s - and feel that I have grown alongside the team. It was my earliest introduction to feminist concepts - the "show your work" and "Sasha's advice" planted seeds that I wasn't getting from anywhere else.
Looking at your schedule I see now why you've not responded to any emails I've sent you about how your BTS advocacy changed my life 🤣 But in all sincerity, thank you for writing a blog that not only keeps me informed but also makes me thinks, seek out new entertainment suggestions and creates a culture that feels like the creators and the fans are all besties. It's unique in the news realm and it is so appreciated. Thank you Lainey and the beautiful team that supports LaineyGossip and all in your info empire! 💜
