My facial treatment, Oscar feels and Bennifer questions, will Taylor Swift weigh in on the election, why all the reboots, how box office numbers are counted, and dad TV shows
Sarah, your skin looks gorgeous! And that "11" you mention is so close to invisible that I would never have noticed without stopping to look closely. Since my 20s, my skincare routine has been very like yours -- I never sleep in makeup, cleanse and moisturize 2x a day, religious sunscreen application year-round, about 3-4 facials a year -- and my skin still looks very good, but by age 47, stuff is catching up anyway. I've done BBL three times now (my friends like saying I'm Brazilian Butt Lifting my face) and will keep on doing it, because it really knocks pigmentation off my face.
I am very likely one of many readers who feel energized and hopeful about Kamala, and am also hoping Tswift will endorse her, but great point from Lainey about what she would add to the conversation right now. Right now, Kamala doesn't need it. But I hope hope hope Taylor will make a clear endorsement close to election day. Swifties, assemble!
Damn, that campaign video makes me want to just run down my street screaming "register to vote!"
Here to echo all the praises for lasers for skin texture and clarity. I do it once a year and am always thrilled with the results. I do IPL which is a little less intense than BBL I believe and it still gives the evenness I’m looking for.
As far as Tswift I do think she will give an actual endorsement (she did the cookies in 2020) but probably closer to the election. I liked the article in the cut today talking about Swifties for Harris and how they weren’t waiting for Taylor to say something to mobilize. I love the idea of voter registration drives being organized around her remaining us tour dates and putting the clowning skills to good use.
Swifties could be like BTS fans and raise millions of dollars for charity and other causes like mass trolling Trump, but I do see efforts here and there and that gives me hope for the fandom. The problem is, while as huge as the Army, Swiftie culture was never collective. Army never fought over a like from RM on tumblr, never fought over a meet and greet because KPop operates differently than Taylor Swift, who has always been in a position to control every aspect of her career, which includes fan engagement. Taylor's fan service created a culture in swifties of not being a unified fandom in any meaningful capacity beyond being a crowd at a show and doing things in unison. I'm sure there are Army fan hierarchies and that having a selfie or whatever with a band member makes you more popular/have more power in the fandom, but it's clear to me that does not affect the Army's ability to organize. The swiftie fandom hierarchy has lines drawn based on whether you've met Taylor and how prominent you are in the fandom. To make things more complicated, there are so many cliques of powerful swifties, it's like a constant Game of Thrones war: The House of Hannah vs the House of Jill etc. I hope that Taylor not doing social media really anymore and her not doing Meet and Greets changes the fandom for the better and we learn how to organize as a collective like the Army. I can see non-US/UK swifties mobilizing more effectively.
I find it interesting how big the swell is without her engagement. Swifties for Harris came out instantly. Her Time person of the year photo is being posted everywhere. She is the most famous and powerful childless cat lady ever. This is very much a political fight for women by women. It’s going to be odd if she still shows up at NFL games as girlfriend to big burly man in their bubble of privilege and leaves her legions of female fans to fight it out alone.
Jennifer Aniston, to her credit, took a good swipe at JD Vance, so that opportunity to be the 'first' to address the cat lady thing may have passed. I do think she'll say ~something~.
I think if Taylor is going to say something, she is going to wait until a boost in needed, like in September/October - that way she doesn’t draw attention away from Kamala and the growing momentum.
Sarah you are gorgeous! Thank you Lainey for the shoutout! I'm adopted from Russia and it's spelled Ksenia :)
Down to my swiftie bones, I only know two facts: 1. Taylor will not post about the Gaza war (definitely viewed by her and her team as too controversial) and 2. she will definitely post SOMETHING about the election. In 2019 after Taylor's excellent Guardian interview with Laura Snapes in which she allowed herself to be pushed by Laura into really giving her political opinions, I foolishly got a little too high, saying Taylor would be more vocal about politics in the future beyond social media posts, and was blessed with a humiliating pic of her Biden cookies. So having been the Fool, I shall never ever make specific declarations in the town square about what Taylor will do with politics beyond declaring that she will say ~something~ or nothing about a topic. I do think her specifically endorsing Kamala is very possible. If she's capable of not just endorsing a candidate, but purchasing cookies with their name and choosing to POST herself holding them with the expression of a fawn on social media for all to see...she's capable of a direct Kamala endorsement. It's a matter of when she chooses to do it. I think she is aware waiting until the last minute is too late but maybe she feels right now is too soon. I'd like to think Taylor is strategically waiting until Kamala loses momentum in the long campaign by having a bad week (all candidates do at one point or another) and "needs" her but I doubt that. I also doubt at this point in her career Taylor herself sincerely believes endorsing Kamala will affect her bottom line, and she has proven she is (eventually) capable of defying her white rosacea ch*de team (excuse my French).
Ksenia we're so sorry for that! The online version of this post is updated to correct the typo. We've said your name correctly when talking about The Squawk's community before so I'm surprised 3 of us all missed that. Again, our apologies.
Okay, Ksenia, she baked those Biden cookies! While commenting on the Israel/Gaza conflict is more than likely considered controversial by her team, I also think she wouldn't comment about it because it's a safety risk especially while she's on a world tour. That's important to note when discussing what she feels okay to comment about.
I`m thinking that it will be closer to the elections ie october - If she is going to do something else than encourage to vote. And perhaps combine (support) it to something like ”look what you made me do” if reputationTV would actually be announced this year.
Dad shows - I feel like all the dads of a certain age that I know just watch TV about their favorite sports! My FIL is a car racing guy so it's either that or like top gear type shows. My mom's husband will watch stuff like shogun or whatever happens to be on PBS but mostly it's just the game, and the game depends on what season it is
My dad goes down strange YouTube wormholes. I have sat countless weekends watching endless hours of Vice Grip Garage. It's actually kinda soothing. LOL
Dad shows… mine likes the police procedurals from BBC, e.g., Inspector Morse, Inspector Lewis. Together we’ve watched the original Prime Suspect with Helen Mirren. And Astrid, a French detective show on PBS. He also likes the Longmire TV series.
Dad shows: great list! My dad loves true crime doc shows (he can name specific forensic scientists 😬) but his shows also include Lawman: Bass Reeves (I literally know no one else who has watched this) which seems like a real dad show (based on virtually no evidence except my dad loves it).
You have solid hair. It almost appears luscious, but I am guessing from the hairline. A Waffle House mug shot would be disheveled. Your final skin results are radiant. Pain might tap me out, but it's not a facelift pain so I'll keep it in mind. Not sure if this is an option for melanated skin. Anyway, you look mAHvelous. Resting face is less wrinkles.
I have a LOT of hair. It's currently the shortest it's been in years because I got tired of getting headaches when I put it up.
When showing me reference photos of what to expect in re: recovery, my esthetician had clients with darker skin, so I do think these treatments can work on melanated skin, but obviously you would have to ask the esthetician what to expect.
I wonder if the timing of anything Taylor might say or do in support of Harris will also depend on whether/if she releases Reputation TV during the election season. I know a lot of people think Rep TV is coming quite soon, as do I, but it could also be that nobody wants to release any album during this very focus-pulling election in the USA. Hence why so many albums came out this spring. But my very uneducated guess is that if Rep TV is coming sooner rather than later, the endorsement would be after that, to give Rep TV and the vault tracks time to breathe before taking up the air with a Harris endorsement news cycle.
Completely unrelated and I beg all of your forgiveness. Did I miss the post on JLO’s Bridgerton birthday party? This needs to squawked about! It’s the perfect combo of JLO’s extra-ness and fabulousness. Ben would have grimaced his way through it. I wonder if this was the start of her freedom celebrations?
My dad is huge into Hallmark Christmas movies. He is a 77 year old retired lawyer and LOVES Christmas. He pvrs them and watches them year round. It is adorable. We even got him a "This is my Hallmark Christmas move watching mug" mug. 🤣
He also loves all the CBS oldie shows - the NCISs, Blue Bloods, etc.
Dad shows my parents have been into: Blue Bloods (never underestimate the hold of Tom Selleck on that generation), The Lincoln Lawyer, Madame Secretary, and then my dad more specifically is ride or die for Inspector Morse and, I think, Grantchester.
Dad show here is: nat geo manchildren looking for gold or opal or the ark of Noah. Truly amazed how every episode is the same and he can watch a million hours of this.
RE: Dad shows - My dad is that man who will watch anything rather than watch nothing (except for reality TV and anything he considers slow, which is usually my artsy recommendations.) His peak dad shows are Lost, Band of Brothers/The Pacific, Boardwalk Empire, Ted Lasso, and Brassic (it's a British crime dramedy.) He also really liked Top Gun: Maverick because dads.

the use of Freedom in Harris' campaign ad is 11/10, so perfect, no notes but some actual tears.
I'm no Ksenia but no way in hell Taylor doesn't do something to show her support for Kamala.
I`m thinking that it will be closer to the elections ie october - If she is going to do something else than encourage to vote. And perhaps combine (support) it to something like ”look what you made me do” if reputationTV would actually be announced this year.
Dad show for my dad: antiques roadshow. Every single time it’s on he’s watching.
My Dad *loved* Antiques Roadshow. I miss him so much :(
When I first saw the acronym BBL in the mailbag - I initially thought you meant Brazilian butt lift 🤦♀️
You’re not alone!!
Was wondering if it had multiple application options. I know little.
Dad shows - I feel like all the dads of a certain age that I know just watch TV about their favorite sports! My FIL is a car racing guy so it's either that or like top gear type shows. Oh yes, he can watch endless amounts of people pontificating on the state of baseball.

Oh I have to show my dad Lawman the next time I'm down there. Thanks for the reminder!
Girl your skin is perfect. Also you have one of the nicest bottom lips
Thank you. I just wish every photo didn't look like I just got arrested for fighting at a Waffle House.

My dad has probably seen every episode of NCIS at least 10 times. His other favorites: Longmire and (somewhat inexplicably), Everybody Loves Raymond.
Dad shows my parents have been into: Blue Bloods (never underestimate the hold of Tom Selleck on that generation), The Lincoln Lawyer, Madame Secretary, and then my dad more specifically is ride or die for Inspector Morse and, I think, Grantchester.
My dad also loves l the British detective shows. Foyles War is a huge favourite. WW2 and investigations. Total Dad Show.
Dad show here is: nat geo manchildren looking for gold or opal or the ark of Noah. Truly amazed how every episode is the same and he can watch a million hours of this.
Does your dad watch that show about people looking for The treasure of Oak Island? Speaking of every episode is the same!
Yeah it always like we might find the Golden Fleece hidden by the knights templar!!! Oh no it’s just old coins. Rinse repeat 🫠
I would have liked to have read the NYT piece, but it is unfortunately behind a paywall. Is there any chance you guys could use 'gifted articles'?
